Sandra Sue Rodgers/Rossi
My mother's maiden name is Rodgers (spelled with a 'd'). The Rodger's family is made up of a few famous (and not so famous) people. The Rodger's family is also related to the Clarke's and the LeFevers. (Clark is spelled with an without an 'e' just as Rodgers is spelled with and without the 'd'.)
I found out it pretty much started with the Pfost family whom immigrated from Germany and then way later when Hattie M.Clark married my Great Grandfather John Bedford Rodgers and settled in Peculiar,
Missouri.
My mother used to joke around all the time by saying we were a bunch of 'hicks' but, in a lot of ways she wasn't kidding. We were not only a bunch of hicks but we were also a bunch of very decorated war heroes (and heroins). We were also a family full of cowboys, Indians and rebels and we had a few black sheep in the family as well. What family doesn't? But, at any rate, I am very proud of my Rodgers heritage and wouldn't change it for anything.
I felt like it was only fair to both sides of my family that I should name the Rodgers/Clark Line up as well. So here it goes:
1. Sandra Sue Rodgers 1944-2011 Marion Rossi Sr. 1940-living
2. Lawrence Rodgers 1914-2000 Louise DeCoteau 1922-1990
3. John Bedford Rodgers 1881-1945 Hattie M. Clark 1881-1943
4. George F. Rodgers 1830-1905 Nancy Stowe 1857-1932
5. Sterling C. Rodgers 1826-1878 Catherine Keltner 1828-1893
6. George W. Rogers 1800-1833 Charlotte Garrison 1797-
7. William B. Rogers 1772-1842 Sarah Lowe 1772-1819
8. William Rogers 1748-1842 Valetta Downing 1750-1795
9. Benjamin Rogers 1714-1802 Sokey 1740-1795
10. John Rogers 1684-1755 Susannah Marston 1687-1757
These are the direct relations of the Rodger's family line up. (We are direct descendants from these people). If anyone knows if there is a mistake on here please feel free to let me know (nicely, I do not take snotty remarks very well.) Please remember that I am a beginner and beginners make mistakes. I will have the Clarke/Clark line up done, hopefully by tomorrow. :)

Chief Dragging Canoe
This would be my Great Grandfather Chief Dragging Canoe, ten times removed. (that means he was my great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great Grandfather.) He is a part of the Rodgers side of the family. William Rogers (1748-1842) married Valetta Downing. Some consider her a Cherokee Princess but if you know anything about the Cherokee Tribe you know they don't have Cherokee princesses. She is his Great Granddaughter, I think that's how it goes.
He doesn't look like a purty mouth by any means. As a matter of fact, I don't think I'd ever want to meet this guy in a dark alley anywhere, especially if he was in a bad mood.
Here is what some books say about him......
History of this most feared Cherokee War Chief. His common saying was "We are not yet conquered!" as he led the Chickamauga's in battle against the white settlers. At one point when Richard Henderson pushed for more land by attempting to buy a "road to Kaintuckee", Dragging Canoe could stand it no longer, he said "We have given you this, why do you ask for more? You have bought a fair land. When you have this you have all. There is no more game left between the Watauga and the Cumberland. There is a cloud hanging over it. You will find its settlement dark and bloody." This prophecy was to be fulfilled by Dragging Canoe as he continually attacked the white settlers until his death March 1, 1792.
Like I said, I don't think I'd want to meet up with him in a dark alley somewhere no matter what mood he was in.
You can read all about our Great (seven times) Grandfather Chief Dragging Canoe at the Wikipedia Encyclopedia. He's a very famous Native American and I am proud to have him as a part of our family heritage.

Stonewall Jackson
Stonewall Jackson (January 21, 1824 - May 10, 1863) You can read more about Stonewall Jackson in the Wikipedia Encyclopedia under Stonewall Jackson. Press on the name and it'll take you right there. He had one big family too. I just found this all out this morning. :) Love it.
The Marston Family
The Marston Family is one of the most decorated families of the Rodger's and Clarke's heritage. William Marston was born in 1590. He came over from Norfolk, England and was one of the first English settlers to settle in America. He married a Miss Sarah Goody and they settled in Salem, Massachusetts. According to records Mr. Marston had several wives and several children. He may have been born William Marston but he died Captain William Marston in 1704, one of the most decorated war heroes of the United States.
I've not dived into the research yet, but, there seems to be two Sarah Goody's in Salem Massachusetts at this time. One of them was one of the witches that was killed in the Salem Witch Trials and one of them was not. Or it is the same Sarah Goody as the one that was in the Salem Witch Trials? I will be diving into this more when I have more time. Either way it will be an intriguing research for me since I've always been intrigued by what happened in the Salem Witch Trials. I will update you on everything when I get it done.

Hannah Swain
Birth: July 23, 1648 to Death: February 16, 1700
When you find this link in your tree this means that you are linked to someone famous and thanks to Hannah Swain we are related to two famous people: Bette Davis and one of my favorites of all time: Laura Ingalls Wilder. (LOVE IT!) Hannah Swain is Laura Ingalls Wilder's 5th or 7th Great Grandmother. She is also Bette Davis's fifth or seventh great Grandmother. How nice is that? I went to a site and got the family lineage to put up here. So you can press on the picture of the link and it will take you right to it. I'm so tickled about this. We are related to them through the Swain and Clough family.

Laura Ingalls
This is the famous lady Laura Ingalls Wilder who wrote all of the "Little House on the Prairie" books. Actually historians are not entirely sure if Laura had written the books or if her daughter Rose wrote and published her memoirs. But, at any rate they are one of the most famous series in American history. What an awesome lady to be related to! :)
Who is this?
This is a very young Benjamin Franklin with his sister "Sally". That's what they liked to call her anyways.
We are related through Benjamin Franklin again through the Swain Family. This is an excerpt that is taken from one of the Benjamin Franklin family lineage that I found during my research on Ancestry.com:
John had a son named Peter. Peter married Mary. Together they had 9 kids! One of the kids's names is Experience and she married John Swain Jr. The other members of her family included one Abjah Franklin. She was the mother of Benjamin Franklin.
The thing that I find quite odd about this is that on the Lefevre side of our family is a woman named Ann Franklin Hague. Also, born in England. I am researching to find out if she too is somehow related to Benjamin Franklin. That would be strange...........but cool.
Isaac Winslow
The Rodger's family takes another twist and turn into the past. The Winslow family whom is just as decorated as the Marston's and maybe even more so with Isaac Winslow leading the bunch. He and his sons go down in history several times as Governors, judges and other types of honored representatives of our country.
The whole story on the family can be found here at this web page The Isaac Winslow House.
L. Forbes Winslow
This man raised in Insane asylums. His father a doctor of psychology. He was one of the top five suspects in the Jack the Ripper cases. Every family has a 'black sheep'. I guess this is ours.........Please click on the picture and it will take you to the Wikipedia. They will explain exactly whom L. Forbes Winslow was.......
Sarah Helen Powers Witman
Sarah Helen (or Ellen) Powers married John Winslow Whitman. Sarah Powers was once engaged to Edgar Alan Poe. Here is an excerpt of their story from ancestry.com An interesting piece of history. Press on her picture and she will take you right there.
