Welcome ~ Author Brandy Herr ~
Please help me welcome Author Brandy Herr to my page! I am exited to have Brandy Herr here for me to interview today!
She is the author of The Adventures of Freddie Spaghetti and Meatball. It is a children's book series with a talking spaghetti noodle named Freddie and his dog Meatball. They go all over the world meeting local food and solving problems. Freddie Spaghetti was originally invented by her Grandfather who passed away from cancer in 1991. He'd drawn him as a squiggly stick person on a sticky note with a note that read:
To Brandy
Freddy Spaghetti
Love, Granddaddy
Thus, Freddie Spaghetti was born! Brandy had decided the best way to honor her Grandfather was to turn Freddy Spaghetti into a series of children's stories.
Join Freddie Spaghetti and his loyal, lovable pal Meat Ball as they erase boredom by seeking out adventure in faraway places! Along the way, they'll meet friends of all flavors that will help them learn about life, love, and the importance of friendship. The Adventures of Freddie Spaghetti and Meat Ball. The greatest book about a talking noodle you've ever read! Now available in paperback at Amazon! Just press on the book it'll take you right there!
Haunted Granbury
Haunted Granbury is a collection of some of the ghost stories surrounding the historic downtown square of Granbury, Texas. Granbury is home to a multitude of legendary stories and ghostly tales, and as co-founder of the Granbury Ghosts and Legends Tour, I wanted to provide a more in-depth look to some of the stories I tell on the tour. So when I was approached by The History Press to write the book, I jumped at the chance!
When Brandy Herr is not writing she loves to:
Read, of course! I also love watching movies, going out to yard
sales/flea markets, checking out museums and exploring, playing video games,
just anything nerdy, really. I also network and advertise for the Granbury
Ghosts and Legends Tour and help put on the annual Granbury Paranormal Expo.
Also, as an animal lover, I try to do what I can to help out local area
rescues, especially through networking, promotions, and putting my writing
skills to use!
When asked what her favorite ways to advertise? I use a lot of Facebook, which seems to work best since it’s the easiest way to reach the most people at once for advertising and networking. My favorite way, however, is setting up a table at events or giving readings. I love actually getting out there and interacting with people face to face, which allows them to see my excitement and my passion for my work. That’s where the best connections are made.
Does she have any plans for future writings?
Right now I have four other Freddie Spaghetti stories that I have written but not yet published. I would love to see the rest of them released as books, along with writing more in the series, as the possibilities really are endless! My dream is to see the Freddie Spaghetti series really take off.
I also hope that people enjoy my Haunted Granbury book and that it really helps show the world what a fun and interesting town Granbury is. It’s this little hidden gem about an hour from the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex that many people don’t even know exist. But it is so ripe with history and mystery that people that haven’t had a chance to visit are really missing out! I hope that this book puts Granbury on the map as a must-see destination for the weird and the wonderful.
Favorite writing genre?
I love writing my Freddie Spaghetti books. Writing for children is so freeing, because you can really put all your imagination into it. Nothing is too silly or too wacky. In fact, the sillier or wackier the better! But I love the fact that I will soon have a book out that is accessible for adults (or for precocious children that like reading books about ghosts!). I love having a wide audience for my work to be able to reach more people! Plus, telling ghost stories is just lots more fun!
Advice for upcoming authors?
The best advice I always give is: don’t force it. You may feel the pressure of making a deadline and find yourself hitting a writer’s block, but for me, the best remedy is to just take a break. I do my best writing lying in bed at night and letting my mind drift; that’s when the creativity really begins to flow. Find your best composing outlet, and stick with that. If you do nothing but stare at the blank screen in frustration, then you aren’t allowing the quality writing to flow through you. Just relax and let it come naturally, and the results you will see might astound you.
